CAM Convening: How can culture foster conversations around our most pressing issues?

This event is sponsored by the Cultural Alliance of Maine

Culture is uniquely poised to hold space for communities to process the changes and challenges that affect us all, and many Maine cultural organizations strive to create programming that speaks directly to their communities.

Since 2011 Penobscot Theatre Company has worked with local playwrights and composers to bring Maine specific plays to the stage. Trapped, The Musical - A Lobster Tale will make its debut in February 2023 and will speak to one of our state's most pressing questions: how can we attract tourists and maintain our identity? Join Jonathan Berry, Artistic Director; Jen Shepard, Executive Director; Larrance Fingerhut, Maine based composer and Andrew Eninger, LA based playwright to hear how PTC navigates the process of creating hyper local theater.

Their presentation will be followed by a facilitated, open discussion allowing participants to discuss and troubleshoot their own ideas and process. Whether you’re in a phase of brainstorming, planning, feeling stuck, newly launching, or looking back on a project engaging directly with community issues, you’ll come away with actionable ideas and opportunities for further conversation with your peers from around the state.
