Friends of Woodfords Corner is excited to share that we will be offering FREE a Zoning course, designed by board member Eric Larsson, a land use lawyer and planner.
Over three 90-minute classes in January and February, this course will include a general overview of the history, theory, and law of land use regulation, with examples to illustrate various approaches. There will also be interactive class exercises focusing on how zoning operates in Portland. Learn fun facts like the difference between a variance and a conditional use, what’s permitted in R3 and B1b, and the minimum parking requirements for a daycare and a funeral home. Learn how zoning is a critical element in issues ranging from Maine’s housing shortage to America’s obesity epidemic, and global climate change. And, most importantly, learn how to be a more effective participant in local land use decisions.
