Flag Day at the Portland Observatory

In celebration of Flag Day, Wednesday, June 14, the Observatory is open free of charge from 12:00pm-8:00pm for self guided tours. Last admission at 7:30.

Schedule of Events:
12:00 p.m. – raising of the flags
12:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m: free, self-guided tours of the Observatory, with docents stationed on each floor to share history and answer questions
3:00 p.m. – Book signing by local author Paul Ledman
6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. – Live music by the FLUKES (weather permitting)

Flag Day honors the adoption of the Stars and Stripes as our national flag by the Second Continental Congress on June 14, 1777. Greater Portland Landmarks has helped Portland celebrate Flag Day with ceremonies and activities at the Portland Observatory since 2000.

Paul Ledman is the author of three books on local history. The most recent book, Portland Maine, Connections Across Time, focuses on the ways Portland has been influenced by national and international events, both well-known and long-forgotten.

The FLUKES – Fun Loving Ukelele Society, "is a group of over 35 ukulele musicians that present programs for audiences of all ages. Their repertoire spans centuries, from Bach, to the Beatles, and Beyond!"
